| Gunn
Park |
Well known
in the 4-state region for incredible natural beauty and
landscaping, the 132 acre Gunn Park abounds with old rock
walls, hundreds of centuries old maple and oak trees,
and is the site of many reunions and celebrations. The
lazy Marmaton River winds through the park. The river
and two well stock ponds (one with trout in season) provide
hours of delightful angling. Also in season, canoes and
paddle boats are available for rent,with play equipment
for children at each of six shelter houses. Picnic tables
are scattered throughout the park, with limited RV parking
available. |
| Fisher
Park |
Named for
Judge Harry Fisher, a beloved Fort Scott citizen, the
17 acre Fisher Park provides two lighted ball fields for
youth baseball and adult softball, supplementing the three
ball fields at Fort Scott Community College. The swimming
pool, which provides a charming wading pool, is the home
of the Fort Scott swim teams. Tennis courts and sand volleyball
courts are open to the public as well as picnic tables
and playground equipment.The park hosts summer concerts
and many summer recreational events for adult and children. |

Square Park |
Located at
3rd and Hill Streets, University Square Park has picnic
tables with grills for cooking out, playground equipment
for the kids, and several ball fields. |

Come explore 240 acres
of challenging off-road trails for slow-speed 4-wheel
drive vehicles, bicycles and hiking enjoyment. Over 40
miles of trails featuring three levels of difficulty.
The park also includes picnic shelters with grills, a
playground for children, restroom facilities and large
parking area. A daily admission fee is charged; $10 for
vehicles, $5 for bicycles, or purchase an annual access
pass for $50. Located near the Dayton Cemetery, north
of Tomahawk Road on 130th Street. No ATV's or motorcycles
allowed. |

Scott Lake |
Nestled in
a lush, heavily wooded, rural setting, teaming with wildlife,
the 352 acre Fort Scott Lake provides residential living
as well as public boat loading ramps for fishermen and
water skiers with restricted areas for all three. Stocked
annually with channel cat, walleye, small mouth bass,
crappie, muskie, and blue gill, the lake provides many
hours of recreation for anglers. Lakeside campsites, shelter
houses,and picnic areas are available to residents and
visitors alike. The lake is the site of the annual sailboat
regatta for the Fort Scott Sailing Club and serves as
a reservoir for city and rural water systems. Located
2 miles south and 3 miles west of Fort Scott. |

Creek Lake |
The 50 acre
Rock Creek Lake is an integral part of the city and rural
water reserve system. Located on the Marmaton River,and
surrounded by deep woods, Rock Creek serves as a habitat
for wildlife,as well as a quiet haven for fishermen, canoers,
and campers. Located 1 mile south and 2.5 miles west of
Fort Scott. |
| Bourbon
Wildlife Area |
Located 4.5
east of Elsmore, KS, the Bourbon Wildlife Area is 200
acres of some of the best hunting around. It offers the
sportsman and sportswoman an abundance of quail, deer,
turkey, squirrel, and waterfowl to hunt. Hollister Wildlife
Area: Located 6 miles west and 2 miles south of Fort Scott,
the Hollister Wildlife Area is a 2,432 acre refuge of
some of the very best hunting in Southeast Kansas. With
plenty of deer, quail, prairie chicken, turkey, dove,
coyote, and bobcat to hunt. |
