:: GOVERNMENT
A government is only as good as the service provided to its constituents. In Fort Scott, the citizens are provided with superior fire and police protection, library services, parks and recreation, road maintenance, animal control, sewer waste disposal, and water treatment.
The coordination of these and other vital services are in the hands of a five-member city commission. City elections are held on the first Tuesday in April. For more information on voting, please visit the Voter's Registration Information page.
The mayor is elected by the commission for one year and the commissioners serve two- and four-year terms. Those receiving the highest number of votes receive four-year terms. The commission meets on the first and third Tuesdays of the month. For more information on the City Commission, please visit the City Hall's web site.
