Educational opportunities for people of all ages can be found in a diverse mixture of public, private and higher education facilities in the cities of Fort Scott and Uniontown in Bourbon County. The citizens of these two school districts have made a long-term commitment to education by financing major bond issues for school construction and renovation. All the schools have extensive sports programs with state award-winning teams. Fort Scott's public school system is comprised of 2 elementary schools, a middle school, a high school and a new Learning Center. The U-234 district has completed multi-million dollar improvements to the system with the construction of a state-of-the-art middle school, and upgrading the elementary schools. An additional $600,000 was invested in educational technology for all schools. All Fort Scott High School graduating seniors are eligible to receive a four-year scholarship to the college of their choice; in addition, Fort Scott Community College awards over 100 scholarships annually to local seniors. Bourbon County's outstanding school districts offer comprehensive educational programs, with the focus of their curricula on science, mathematics and technology. Both high schools offer college preparatory and educational technology programs. Fort Scott Community College offers traditional educational programs and training customized to meet the needs of business and industry.
